The Taste of Wilson
The Taste of Wilson is The Arc of Wilson County's largest fund raiser of the year. Over the years, The TOW has grown and changed from year to year into what we have today. The money raised from The Taste of Wilson is used to fund Camp Sunshine.
At The Taste of Wilson, local restaurants provide samples of their food and beverages for patrons to sample. Tickets have 10 'tastes' available to be used at 10 different restaurants. Patrons are only allowed to visit each restaurant once so that everyone gets a chance to sample as many restaurants as possible.
The very first Taste of Wilson was held in 1993 in the Wilson Agricultural Center with approximately 12-15 restaurants participating. As the event grew, the location moved to Darden Alumni center for two years, and as the event grew even more, Parkwood (and then Wilson) Mall with up to about 40 restaurants providing samples of food to the patrons. With the closing of the interior of Wilson Mall in 2012, The Taste of Wilson was held at The City of Wilson Parks and Recreation Center for one year, and since 2013 has been held in Fike High School's Gymnasium. The Arc hopes to continue using the facilities at Fike for many years as there is ample parking, as well as access to the cafeteria for people to eat as well as room for the silent auction and other tables for tickets sales and raffles.
